Mission Auction has something for EVERYONE

This Saturday night is Celebration Community Church’s 11th Annual Community Mission Auction with all of the proceeds going to need-meeting ministries here in Hays and throughout the world.

Last year over $50,000 was raised in one night with all of the proceeds given away to local, national and international charities.

This Saturday beginning with a silent auction at 5pm and a live auction at 6:30pm, close to 300 items will be offered.

The GREATEST cause, Christ’s Great Commission.

It’s time again for the 11th Annual Community Mission Auction with all of the proceeds going to need-meeting ministries here in Hays and throughout the world.

Last year over $50,000 was raised in one night with all of the proceeds given away to local, national and international charities.

This Saturday November 15th Celebration Community Church will auction off close to 300 items to support local organizations like First Call for Help, ECMA’s 2nd Mile Fund and the Community Assistance Center. The auction will help launch new churches and assist students and adults on mission trips mission trips here in the US and abroad  Monies will also be given to local entities like Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home, Birthright, Rachael’s Vineyard, Habitat for Humanity, Prison Ministries,and local Christian radio stations. Disaster relief organizations like Samaritan’s Purse, World Vision and Compassion International will also be supported.

The Community Mission Auction provides much needed funds to African, Mexican  and Haitian orphanages as well as helping women and children at risk break the chains of sexual slavery. A complete list of Mission Auction funds recipients will be listed in the Auction program.  

It is going to be a wonderful night of tasty food, great music provided by Roger Cooper and our own Pendleton Plaid Band. Eagle radio’s Scott Boomer and Mike Holiday will entertain us as our emcees and Ty Gillum will have us laughing as our auctioneer. The silent auction starts at 5pm with the live auction beginning at 6:30pm.

Tickets are still available in advance at C3 for $15, they will be $20 at the door the night of the auction.

Remember 11:11

At eleven minutes after the eleventh hour on the eleventh month in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eighteen, the guns went silent ending World War I, “The War to End All Wars”. One year later, in 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Armistice Day as a holiday, honoring the successful conclusion of that terrible war. He was determined to make the world peaceful and secure from future war.

At that time, Americans didn’t know that only twenty-three years later an even greater war would be waged with even more death and destruction as the Japanese Empire, the Nazi Party in Germany and the Fascists of Italy joined forces in a movement bent on movement to ruling the world. But that was not to be. After a surprise attack  at Pearl Harbor on  December 7, 1941, America enter the war with the Axis powers  and  the American spirit and work ethic quickly went into full gear, resulting in a rapid build-up of men and material never before seen. After four difficult years fighting in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters simultaneously, the United States and her allies succeeded in winning another, even more costly, world war.

In the 1950’s, in recognition of the contributions of American military personnel in both world wars, President Eisenhower signed legislations changing the official name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day. This change would allow for recognition of those serving in uniform in the future as well as the past.

For those who died, we must never forget. For those who were wounded, both physically and emotionally, we are duty bound to help them return their lives to as much normalcy as possible. And for the rest, those who served but were fortunate enough to come home unscathed, we sincerely thank them for their service.
So remember today November 11th is Veterans Day. When you see a veteran or know one who you can call, be sure to thank him or her for their service. For without them, the freedom which we take for granted would have disappeared under tyranny long ago.

Go into all the world…

Instead of making appeals throughout the year for money, Celebration Community Church has for the last 16 years been raising dollars to fulfill the Great Commission by auctioning off items from our congregation and local retailers at what we call the Community Mission Auction. In years past we would combine the auction with a Thanksgiving Dinner we would put on at the Schenk building at the Ellis County Fairgrounds where our congregation used to worship before we had our own building. 

Eleven years ago we decided in order to grow the mission auction we would make it a stand alone evening event. Since then God has blessed us with ever increasing amounts of generous people who have sacrificially given to our mission auction. Last year I was pleased to announce that we raised over $51,000 which has been given away this year to over 40 need meeting, charities, ministries and missions.

In order for us to reach these kind of staggering numbers all in one night we will need the cooperation of everyone who calls C3 their church home. We ask that everyone (that means you) purchase a ticket,  donate an item and then be sure to come if you can and help celebrate all that God is doing though C3  in Hays, Colby, and around the world all for the cause of Christ.  

It will be a night of tasty food, fun entertainment, wonderful bargains and  all for a great cause. The silent auction starts at 5pm with the live auction beginning at 6:30pm.

Tickets can be purchased all this week at C3 for $15 or at the door the night of the event for $20.

You Will Be My Witnesses - Part 3

You will be my witnesses Part 3

Jesus gave his first century disciples a mission found in Acts 1:8  “and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

This week we have seen that we are to reach out those who we have a relationship with, (Jerusalem) those in our vicinity who we may never naturally socialize with (Judea, and Samaria). Today we will look at how we can reach “the ends of the earth.”

When Jesus said this His disciples had limited means of transportation and communication. Today we can reach the farthest points of the world by plane in a matter of hours. We have mass communication, cell phones, and the internet to go and reach the world. It has never been easier to fulfill your mission.

We are not all called to go to Haiti to teach little orphan children about the love of Christ like the St Peter family or C3’s college group Encounter, but all of us can participate.  

Here are a couple of ways. The first is to contribute to our Annual Mission Auction on Nov. 15th.  At C3 we support dozens of missionary and outreach ministries through this one night of giving. I am asking all of you to buy a ticket and donate an item.

Another way all of us can participate is through Operation Christmas Child shoe box mission. For 15 years we at C3 have been filling shoeboxes with toys and school supplies to reach the neediest of kids around the world.   This year C3’s ladies quilting group have sewn little dresses, britches and crayon rolls to pack in the boxes. Bring your boxes AFTER the Mission Auction from Nov 16th -24th.  

The Great Co-Mission we have been given is to share the good news of Jesus Christ in our close circles as well as where it is a stretch of our comfort zones even to the ends of the earth.

You Will Be My Witnesses

The mission Jesus gave his first century disciples was found in Acts 1:8  “and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Yesterday in this blog we saw that Jerusalem represents those closest to us like friends, family neighbors and co-workers. Judea was the community in which they lived and the people were those that they had in common with each other.  

What do you do have in common with some unchurched people in our community? Running, quilting, your kids sports teams? These folks are your Judea. Now when Jesus commanded his disciples to reach out to Samaria he was aware that the Samaritans were looked at as “untouchables” to the Jewish community.

Who are the people Jesus calls us to reach out to that we don’t associate with. People with tattoos and piercing? Men and women in drug or alcohol recovery? Couples with alternative lifestyles?  Never forget,Jesus died for EVERYONE’S sins and commissions us His church to be a Christ-like witness to them all.

Tomorrow we will look at ways we can reach out “to the ends of the earth”.

Who is in your Jerusalem?

The mission Jesus gave his first century disciples was found in Acts 1:8  “and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

When Jesus told this to his followers, they were in Jerusalem. Here’s the principle; you start at home with the people closest to you. Jesus once healed a demon possessed man and after He did the man wanted to leave his home and come with Jesus but Jesus said no.  

He said, "’Go back home and tell those people how much God has done for you.’ So the man went all over town telling how much Jesus had done for him." (LK 8:39)

So where are you to start? Right at home, by inviting to church the people you are closest to. Go to your friends, your family, coworkers, neighbors, the person who serves you coffee.  Surveys tell us that people all around us are spiritually hungry. A recent Gallup survey revealed that over 100 million Americans have no church home, but 50 million of them said they would attend if somebody would just invite them! Within ½ hour travel time of Celebration Community Church there are 23,000 unchurched people who are just waiting for an invitation.

Who in your Jerusalem will you be inviting to church this Sunday.
