There are many misconceptions about the identity of the Holy Spirit. So today we are going to look at what does the Bible say about the identity of the Holy Spirit?
Simply put, the Bible declares that the Holy Spirit is God. The Bible also tells us that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, a being with a mind, emotions, and a will.
TODAY we begin an overview of 10 marks of WHO the HOLY SPIRIT IS, and WHAT the Holy Spirit DOES.
1. The Holy Spirit Exalts Jesus.
Back in john 15, Jesus talks about what was going to happen:“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—The Spirit of Truth who goes out from the Father—will testify about me.” -John 15:26 The Holy Spirit Advocates For Jesus, Exalts Jesus and Testifies about Jesus Jesus makes it clear in Scripture that the purpose of the Holy Spirit is to EXALT Jesus as the name above all names, the Lord and Savior of the world.
2. The Holy Spirit Convicts us.
Conviction isn’t a very popular word. Usually it is followed by a punishment, right? Convicted of a crime, The Gavel comes down your convicted, now do the time.
That way of thinking in Christianity doesn’t account for God’s grace and the price Jesus paid for our sin!
What I am talking about is a different kind of conviction:
Jesus says… 8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment. John 16:8 (NLT)
The Holy Spirit is that tap on the shoulder that reminds us of how we are to live, what we are to do and what we are NOT to do. The Holy Spirit reminds that we are to live our lives in such a way as to honor the ONE who died for us.
