"You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria…. Acts
1:8
Jesus commissioned His
disciples to share the good news with those in Samaria, whom were despised by
those in Jerusalem. God’s love demands that we move beyond our comfort zone,
even to people that we don’t know or don’t like. He doesn’t want anybody left
behind. God is passionate about lost
people. We have been given the best news in the world with the responsibility
to share it with people from different
backgrounds, different education, and different economics status. Our mission
has eternal consequences, heaven and hell. The Bible is very clear that there
are only two choices we can make and they end us up in heaven or hell. There
are no other choices. We must be willing to risk anything to get that message
out. Let me ask you a question. If you had the cure for Aids, or
Alzheimer’s or for Cancer, would you do
your best to make sure everybody who needed it knew? Of course you would. It would be wrong to keep it a secret.
You have something even
more important than that, you know the way to eternal life. People in our own
community have been terribly wounded by the curse of this world. They are
grappling with the consequences of sin and disobedience. They may even have been
hurt by a church in the past. We can either curse them or bless them.
Christians are called to build bridges, not walls.
I once read that you
can’t spell "God" without seeing the word "go." You can’t
spell "Good News" without "go." You can’t spell
"gospel" without "go." You and I have to been told by Jesus to go!
