Remember…Repent…Repeat

Revelation Series
During these posts we have been looking at what Jesus instructs John to write to the church at Ephesus AND TO US!
Revelation 2:4-5 "Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love."
He then gives them some advice as to how to regain that love.
"Remember the height from which you have fallen,Repent, and then  Repeat the things you did at first”.
A group of faithful Christian men and women in their 70s and 80s were asked to share their secrets to staying in love with Jesus in the long haul. Each one of these men and women shared with a seminary class the very same thing. They said there really isn’t a secret, they just  never stopped doing the basics. It’s the basics that kept them on track. And that goes for all of us as well.
For years I have said that we all need to have a Daily Quiet Time with God, to read his word and in prayer, seek his guidance. Secondly we need to meet regularly with a small group of believers who will share your joys and burdens and help keep us accountable. And the third thing is to worship regularly with your church family. We worship each week in celebration of His presence in our lives, seeking inspiration from God’s Spirit in us and other believers and to receive preparation from pastors who are gifted to share God’s word with us in practical and relevant ways.
Want to reignite your first love with Jesus? Remember the things you did at first. Repent from the sin that is keeping you close to Christ and then repeat the things you did at first. That’s how you keep your relationship with Him sharp by going back to the resources and going back to the word of God and going back to prayer and going back to spending time with other people in fellowship.  These are the things that will help to keep Christ as your first love.
Your pastor and partner in ministry,
Kyle
