PRAY

JESUS TEACHES US HOW NOT TO PRAY
As we begin our all church emphasis on prayer let’s look at how Jesus teaches us to pray and how not to.
Don’t pray like the hypocrites
5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. Matthew 6:5
Some people want to be seen as "holy," and public prayer is one way to get attention. Jesus sees right through our self-righteous acts and teaches us that the essence of prayer is not public style but honest, personal private communication with God.
Don’t pray like the heathens
7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:7-8
Repeating the same words over and over like a magic incantation is no way to ensure that God will hear your prayer. Jesus encourages persistent prayer but he condemns the shallow repetition of words that are not offered with a sincere heart. Be Real, Be Honest and Be Open to hear what God has to say to you.

  1. Don't seek attention from the world when you pray, seek attention from your Father, and your Father alone. If you do this, then the world will see Him through you.
